Woodwork through a Spanish-style house
Tom built the woodwork through this house above the ocean: beams and plank ceilings, arched doors and windows, the kitchen cabinets, the mantels and the bath vanity. One hand in every room, which is why it reads as one house.

Oak cabinetry through a new Spanish-style house

Painted cabinetry and closets through a remodeled house
Finish work through a whole remodel: a kitchen with sage-green base cabinets and white uppers, a pantry nook with open shelves over a wood counter, a painted bath vanity, closets fitted with shelves and hanging rods, and a stair with new wood treads.
Tom built the knotty wood cabinetry and trim for this log house: a bookcase wall built between peeled log posts, a bar and desk with glass-fronted cabinets, bath vanities, a loft railing, mantels and wainscot.

Cabinetry, a stair and a library in a traditional house
Tom built the woodwork through this traditional house: a kitchen in warm wood with glass-fronted cabinets and a hanging pot rack, a butler’s pantry, a painted stair with a turned-baluster railing, a wall of library bookcases around a window, and a bath vanity.

A painted Shaker kitchen
Blue-gray Shaker cabinets on three walls and an island, with a full-height pantry wall built around the refrigerator. Behind the pantry doors: plywood boxes, pull-out trays and adjustable shelves.
Pale oak flat-panel cabinets with a dark island, panels made to cover the refrigerator, and one long floating shelf over the bar. On flat doors the grain and the gaps are the whole design, so both have to line up.

A maple dining table with a chevron top
A dining table built in the shop. The top is laid in a chevron pattern: angled boards that meet along the center line and at one point in the middle, inside a mitered border. Every board is cut, numbered and dry-fitted before any glue.

Flat-panel cabinetry through a new house
Flat-panel cabinets for a whole house, photographed during installation, before the countertops: kitchen and island, a pantry of fitted shelves, the laundry, and a floating vanity hung from the wall.
Shelving built in place, wall to wall: a closet with corner shelves and double hanging rods, and pantries with shelves that wrap the corner. Each shelf gets a solid wood front edge so it stays straight under load. The last is a walk-in closet lined in cedar.

A synagogue ceiling for a Los Angeles museum
In 1992 Tom helped install “From Exile to Redemption” at the Martyrs Memorial and Museum of the Holocaust in Los Angeles: the museum’s model of a 17th-century Polish wooden synagogue ceiling, designed and painted by the artist Joanne Abensour. The museum’s newsletter pictured the installation.
